Organ System Main Functions: The digestive system is a group of organs working together to convert food into energy and basic nutrient to feed the entire body. The digestive system is really important for the body because it responsible for taking whole food and turning them into energy and nutrient so our body can stay healthy. Another reason why the digestive system is really important is because it help us to digest food, if we didn't have food in our system, our living cells wouldn't survive.
Organ of interest Main functions: The small intestine is a long, highly tangled tube that's in the digestive system and absorb about 90% of the nutrients from the food we eat. The small intestine is really important to us and the digestive system because without it our bodies would't have enough nutrients to keep our bodies strong and healthy. Also if the digestive system didn't have the small intestine all of those nutrients, will go away and wouldn't be used. More Information: The small intestine is about 7 meters, it also have 3 part to it, the duodenum, jejunum, and the ileum. Other organs in the system: 1. Pancreas: Produce enzymes, and pancreas juice. 2. Liver: Clean the body from the body 3. Gallbladder: The gallbladder help digest fats. 4. Large Intestine: The Large Intestine absorb water from the remaining of the waste.
What happens if the organ fails? in case the small intestine fail, the whole body might be in risk because without it, our bodies wouldn't receive all the nutrients it needs. If this organs doesn't work, it would absorb the nutrients it come though it. For example, If you ate an apple , all the nutrients the apple contain goes through the small intestine and because it doesn't work, it get pulled though the large intestine. Then you need to go the bathroom and now the nutrients is going down the drain because your small intestine couldn't keep it.
Why does this organ fail? The small intestine might have failed because half of the intestine is missing or it have a inflection. If this organ is failing you would be able to absorb nutrients.
How does an organ transplant fix the problem from the organ failure? The transplant might help because the failing organ would be repaired and now the body can work normally. This only works if the organs can match your type.
Ethical Dilemma: If you ever get a organ transplant, you might have problems, for example if the person that donate you the organ have a serious disease or something it can transport to you, meaning you might have it. For example if the person have HIV, you have the possibility you might get it or have it. It's very important make sure it's the best match and the person donating the organ is healthy without diseases.
