Organ Donation History:
The organ transplant first began in 1954, lead by the Dr. Joseph Murray and Dr. David Hume. The first organ that was remove in the donation history was a kidney from a patient name Ronald Herrick. The reason it was removed because his identical twin's kidney was failing and he was the only match for replacement.
What is an organ transplant?
- Organ Transplant is when you go to surgery to get a organ remove so another person can receive it, in order to stay alive
- Lots of people need organ transplant because their lives depend on it
- Some of the people organs is not working or not well functioning and can;t continue living
- Organ donor is a person who volunteer to donate part of their organs, for people who are dying or waiting to receive it.
- One requirement you need to have in order to donate is you need to be healthy, but in other cases if you have a disease or Chronic medical condition you still allow to donate. If you have HIV or actively spreading brain cancer, or current inflections you can't be allow to donate, FOR THE SAFELY OF THE PEOPLE.
- Lots of people donate organs while still being alive. For example they can donate a kidney, a liver (but only a part). They also allow to donate lungs, pancreas, and intestines.
What are some types of organs that brain dead organ donors can only donate?
- When you brain dead you can donate is the heart and the rest of the organs( Intestine,lungs,kidney,stomach,pancreas, ETC) The brain is the only organs you can't donate because it dead.
- When you brain death it means that you are alive but the brain is no longer with you.
- The organs that work are the heart, lung, kidneys, and all the rest expect the brain.
What is an organ recipient
- An organ recipient is the person who is receiving the organ or donation.
- Many people need organ donors because every day thousands of people die from different country, just waiting for organs or donation that can save their lives.
- More than 105,00 people are on the waiting list just waiting for an organ
- More than 1 million people in the US sign up for donations
- About 18 people die each day waiting for an organ.
- 79 people receive organ transplant each day
